The investment signal is strong
MIDA's Q1 2026 update reports RM38.9 billion in Information and Communications investment. Its 2026 digital-economy material says Malaysia approved RM464.6 billion in digital investments from 2021 to Q1 2026, with RM309.8 billion, or 66.7%, in data centres and cloud infrastructure.
Those figures show the scale of the opportunity, not a guarantee of local business benefit. The operating question is whether a new campus can connect power, water, roads, suppliers, talent, approvals, and surrounding communities before the first workload runs.

Power and water are operating constraints
The IEA's global model puts data-centre electricity use at about 415 TWh in 2024 and projects around 945 TWh by 2030 in its base case. That is global context, not a Malaysia forecast. MIDA's current material separately highlights renewable energy, battery storage, water stewardship, talent, and local supplier capability as part of Malaysia's digital-infrastructure challenge.
That makes infrastructure telemetry and planning as important as server procurement. Operators need a live view of load, cooling, water reuse, maintenance, and incidents rather than separate reports that only meet after a problem appears.
